PhD Student

Hi!

Welcome to my site! I’m a grad student at the Rice BCI Lab in Houston, Texas researching how artificial intelligence can be used to restore motor functions for patients with spinal cord injury, ALS, and other diseases that cause motor deficits. Before this, I spent four amazing years as a research engineer in New York City at Bionic Sight, working on a clinical trial of an optogenetic retinal therapy for blind patients. Through these experiences, I’m really optimistic that advances in complementary fields like AI, materials science, genetics, and neuroscience (among others) will allow us to ask hard questions about how the brain thinks with immediate clinical benefits for the people who need it the most.

Outside of research, I enjoy learning new things about the world through books, movies, travel, food or family and friends, and enjoy watching and playing sports like soccer and basketball. I also enjoy writing; this website is a work-in-progress for research related work, but I also semi-regularly post creative writing on my newsletter.

If you’re interested in connecting about research or want to grab a coffee I’m all ears, feel free to shoot me a line!

🧠 Research
My research so far has been investigating methods to perform closed-loop recording and stimulation of mouse visual cortex neurons in collaboration with the Xie Lab. Ultimately, our goal is to enable stimulation to restore sensory percepts in human participants. As I continue on my PhD, I hope to share more updates about our work!
Please feel free to reach out if you would like to collaborate, have a cool tip, or have a question!
